The magic of Mushrooms - Foraging Walk and Meal

Step into the forest with The Magic of Mushrooms — a seasonal foraging walk through the woodlands of Perthshire, guided by a lifelong forager with deep roots in wild food traditions and mushroom ecology.

Late summer and early autumn are a wonderful time to forage for fungi. However, mushrooms can be temperamental — their fruiting depends on the health of the mycelium, recent rainfall, and fluctuations in daytime and nighttime temperatures. While we’ll explore a variety of habitats and increase our chances, nature offers no guarantees — we may not find every species we hope for, and we’re not aiming to fill baskets but to deepen understanding.

Together we’ll learn how to confidently identify wild mushrooms, explore their role in the ecosystem, and share stories of their uses in food, medicine and folklore.
The walk ends with a warm, alfresco meal prepared using wild, seasonal ingredients.

"The time we had with Szymon was just wonderful. I wanted it to go on and on, and I know others in our group felt the same. His love and knowledge of his subject shone through combined with humour and fascinating connections between the practice of foraging and plant science, and language, culture, history and chemistry. All with a light touch and great rapport with the group. Strongly recommended!"
